Dr. Elizabeth Smith, NMD, LAc

My journey into naturopathic medicine began long before I considered it a career. For years, I struggled with persistent fatigue and frequent respiratory infections, only to be told by my primary care provider that my symptoms were “normal” or that I was “overreacting.” Deep down, I knew there had to be another explanation — and another way forward.

That path opened when I sought care from a naturopathic doctor in my hometown of Anchorage, Alaska. Through a combination of meaningful lifestyle and nutritional changes, and the gentle support of herbal medicine, I experienced profound shifts in my health and well-being. At the same time, after spending more than a decade working in the remote Alaskan wilderness as a fisheries biologist, I found myself ready for a new adventure — one that aligned with the transformation I was experiencing firsthand.

This led me to Bastyr University, where I completed both my Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine and my Master’s in Acupuncture. During my training, my passion for holistic, integrative healing deepened. I pursued additional study in gastrointestinal health, craniosacral therapy, biofeedback, and hydrotherapy. Since entering clinical practice, I have continued to expand my expertise with hundreds of hours of advanced training in women’s health and hormone management, complex chronic disease, pelvic floor therapy, and ketamine-assisted therapy.

By blending these modalities with nutritional therapy and botanical medicine, I partner with patients to uncover the underlying causes of illness, address contributing factors, and support the body’s innate healing systems. My goal is to help patients not only find relief from symptoms, but also prevent — and when possible, reverse — the progression of disease.

I am committed to creating individualized, intentional treatment plans that empower patients to make sustainable lifestyle changes without overwhelm. I believe deeply in the balance of supporting the body with targeted botanicals, nutraceuticals, and medical therapies while avoiding unnecessary or excessive supplementation. Sustainable healing is most powerful when it is both effective and achievable.
